Bioglitter™ is the trademark and brand name of a range of eco-friendly alternatives to traditional plastic based glitter.  It has been developed and continues to be developed, to tackle the part of microplastic pollution created by glitter.

Invented and manufactured by Ronald Britton Ltd, a British company, Bioglitter™, uses natural and plant derived material as it’s basis rather than plastic.  It is PROVEN through ISO14851/2 freshwater testing of the whole Bioglitter product, core and coating, to quickly biodegrade into harmless substances in the natural environment.

Bioglitter™ replaces the polyester film used in traditional glitter with a unique and special form of cellulose from hardwoods, primarily eucalyptus sourced from responsibly managed and certified plantations, operating to PEFC™ www.pefc.org standards.  This core in its own right possesses excellent eco-credentials, in it being biodegradable in all environments; certified compostable in both industrial (EN13432, EN14995, ASTM D6400, ISO 17088) and home composting environments (OK Compost Home) and also marine biodegradation approved to ASTM D6691-09

Bioglitter™ continues on its development journey and in the new year (2021) four of the five product ranges will be TÜV Austria, OK biodegradable WATER certified.  This is the highest level of independent certification for fresh water biodegradability in the world, an achievement that still remains unequalled by any other glitter manufacturer.

• Bioglitter™ biodegrades quickly and safely in the natural environment
• Certification cuts through confusing messages around plastic content and biodegradability
• Biodegradable doesn’t mean an excuse to litter, we do not encourage indiscriminate use of glitter outdoors
